The Future of Shoemaking

Philipe Moreau-Latreille

Hello everyone, I am Philippe, the heart and soul of Chez Gerry since 1958. Today, I would like to share with you our optimistic vision for the future of shoemaking in Quebec, despite the challenges facing our industry .

Current Challenges

We are all aware of the challenges of our profession: lack of formal training, labor shortage, evolution of manufacturing materials, and a lack of government support. These obstacles are not insurmountable, but they require a new way of thinking and acting.

Our Response At Gerry’s

  1. Embracing Technology and Social Media : We actively use social media and online platforms to educate our customers and share our passion for shoemaking. This helps us connect with our community and strengthen our presence in an increasingly digital world.
  2. Innovation in our Services : We accept products for repair by mail, thus offering our services to a wider customer base. This approach allows us to remain relevant and accessible, no matter where our customers are.
  3. Promoting Sustainability : In a world that is becoming aware of the importance of sustainability, we highlight the importance of shoe repair and maintenance. This is not only good for the environment, but also for the local economy.
  4. Valorization of Training and Mentoring : Although there is no official training in Quebec, we firmly believe in the power of mentoring. By passing on our know-how to the new generation, we preserve the art of shoemaking and ensure its future.

Looking to the Future with Optimism

At Gerry, we see these challenges not as obstacles, but as opportunities to grow and evolve. We are determined to stay at the forefront of our profession, adapting to changes and remaining true to our values of quality, sustainability and exceptional customer service.

We want this article to serve as an inspiration to other shoemakers and those considering joining this beautiful profession. Together, we can ensure a prosperous future for shoemaking in Quebec.

Thank you for joining us on this journey, and we look forward to continuing to serve our community with passion and dedication.

Philippe from Chez Gerry 1958.
