🧰 Giving your boots a new lease on life: the art of restoration at Gerry 1958
J.P. Henri At Gerry 1958 , every pair of boots that enters our workshop has a story. Sometimes they're Red Wings worn by years of work. Other times, they're cracked Blundstones , patinated Aldens , or even vintage Dr. Martens inherited from a loved one.
Our mission: to bring them back to life while respecting their original character.
🪚 Step 1 — The diagnosis
It all starts with a meticulous inspection: leather, stitching, welt, sole, heel.
We assess the structure and determine if the shoe can be restored, rebuilt or converted (such as a Blundstone to a Goodyear welted construction).
🎯 Objective: to extend lifespan without compromising comfort.
👞 Step 2 — Disassembly and preparation
We remove the old soles and thoroughly clean the leather. This is where we eliminate glue residue and cracks, and prepare the welt for a clean new assembly .
Each pair is then nourished with natural balm and left to rest before reassembly.
⚙️ Step 3 — Reconstruction
We use Vibram soles , waxed thread , and traditional Goodyear welted techniques to ensure durability.
This method allows for resoling again and again , over the years.
The result: a stronger, better balanced boot, ready to hit the road again.
✨ Step 4 — The Finishing Touch
This is the moment when the magic happens. We polish, we re-patinate, we buff.
Some pairs leave looking “like new” , others intentionally retain their patina of age — it’s up to the customer to choose.
🧴 Each restoration is finished with a protective coating of wax and natural oil.
❤️ A philosophy: repair, don't throw away
Our workshop in Gatineau is built on a simple idea: to make last what deserves to last .
Repairing your boots is an ecological, economical and emotional act.
Each pair repaired is a piece of history preserved .
